Win Prizes

Everyone loves winning prizes, right? We do, that’s for sure. We also like giving them out. And that’s what we plan to do. Here’s the deal.

We’ve been really excited with the quantity and quality of the products that have been suggested up to this point in our site’s existence. I think that we’re approaching the point where more products are added via suggestions than via our own searches. That’s great.

Previously, we had a rather sloppy prize system in place on our Facebook group page. It was too vague and too hard to win anything.

Now, we’ve switched over to a pretty straightforward points-based system. Here’s how it works:

  1. First, you’ll need to register an account with Curiobot. It’s really easy and free.
  2. Once you’ve registered and confirmed your account, you can begin suggesting products. Don’t forget to send your username along with the product you suggest. Remember that in order for the product to be included, it has to be strange/wonderful and available for online purchase!
  3. If we choose to add your suggestion to the archive, you’ll start seeing your points accumulate on your user profile page.
  4. Every time a visitor views your suggested product’s page, you receive one point, multiplied by a “recency factor”… meaning that products that have been added recently earn the most points. Consequently, old products will eventually stop generating points.
  5. Every time a visitor clicks through to your suggested product’s merchant site, you receive three points, multiplied by our recency factor.
  6. Once you get to 10,000 total points, you get to choose from a list of prizes from our archive. I think we’ll also let you save up your points to earn some larger prizes if you want to do that instead.
  7. You can repeat this process for as many suggestions as you like and receive points for all of them!

Trust us, the points add up fast! Really fast. We get a lot of traffic.

On that note, our prize qualifications are subject to change… if, say, we start getting 1,000,000 visitors per month. That would make earning prizes too easy! Everyone likes a challenge. And we like not being forced into bankruptcy by our overzealous prize-giving.
